SILVERSTONE, Great Britain -- Esteban Ocon is targeting a race seat next year after two days at the wheel of Mercedes' championship-leading W07 at Silverstone this week.

Ocon is the reigning GP3 champion and is currently Renault's reserve driver as well as a Mercedes DTM race driver. He is contracted to Mercedes, but with the world champions likely to stick with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg next year and Mercedes' other protege Pascal Wehrlein waiting in the wings, the Frenchman has been linked to a race drive with Renault.

"I don't know, the boss will decide what they want there in Renault," he said. "My target is to be in Formula One next year so I'm working as much as I can and getting ready for next year.

"At the moment, it's still too early to speak about that. I still have outings in FP1 [with Renault] that I will have to do. We will have to keep working on that and focus there."

Ocon is in no doubt that he is ready for F1.

"The team was happy. I'm ready to race. I've been there for a long time around the Formula One paddock, so yeah I'm ready to race whenever there is an opportunity."
