It's been three weeks since we've updated the rankings, and to say that things have shifted since then would be a massive understatement.
James Harden is the new No. 1 after an incredible month where 40-point games are the norm. In fact, during the past 10 games, Harden has averaged 40.8 points to go with 6.1 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Karl-Anthony Towns moves up to No. 3, one spot ahead of Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo, thanks to a prolonged stretch of 28-point, 14-rebound, 3-assist, 2-block type of games.
The Warriors' trio of Stephen Curry (5), Kevin Durant (8) and Klay Thompson (44) each slides a bit, as do the likes of Russell Westbrook (12), Kawhi Leonard (16) and Jimmy Butler (33).
Westbrook is in an icy-cold stretch as a shooter, with nights of 3-of-20, 4-of-22, 6-of-20 and 3-of-17 among his poor performances during the past nine games. Leonard isn't rebounding or blocking shots at the rate he once did, and he is still being rested on a regular basis, as he was Sunday against the Pacers. Then there's Butler, who is the topic of controversy once again in Philadelphia, and when on the court, he hasn't played like himself in recent weeks.
There are a bunch of others trending in the opposite direction, moving up the rankings. Leading the way are Bradley Beal (20), Deandre Ayton (21), De'Aaron Fox (31), Jusuf Nurkic (34), Trevor Ariza (60), Kris Dunn (65), Harrison Barnes (66), Kyle Anderson (71), T.J. Warren (72), Brook Lopez (78), Thaddeus Young (79) and Justise Winslow (80).
Highlighting a few names from that list are a couple of unlikely candidates.
Nurkic, for one, has long been a center in the 50-70 range, but he has gone off for 21.2 PPG, 12.6 RPG, 4.2 APG, 1.6 BPG and 2.0 SPG during his past five games. Big men who do all this, especially pass, while also shooting efficiently from the line (74.2 FT percentage this season) are extremely hard to find.
Ariza is another. He looked like he might be done in his half-season in Phoenix, but a return to Washington, where he played from 2012 to 2014, has lifted his spirits and raised his game. While inefficient as a shooter, he is back to being a force in terms of steals, assists and 3s at a time when John Wall is lost for the season.
Last, there's Anderson, who is suddenly playing the best ball of his career. A free agent in many fantasy leagues up until a few weeks ago, Anderson is scoring, rebounding, passing and consistently producing blocks and steals. Even better, he's doing it as one of the most efficient players in the league, making 67.1 percent of his shots during the past 10 games.
On the injury front, a bone bruise to Robert Covington's ankle is expected to sideline him for an extended period of time. He falls way down to 82 as a result.
Chris Paul's hamstring injury is expected to keep him out of the lineup until the end of January, and the chances of it creeping back up again are there as well, which drops the future Hall of Fame point guard down to 81.
Miami's Goran Dragic (knee) isn't expected back until mid-February, and Washington's Markieff Morris (neck/back) is out for six weeks. Each joins Wall as notables who drop out off the list.
