Kylian Mbappe had no regrets after receiving a straight red card in Paris Saint-Germain's 4-2 victory over at Nimes on Saturday and said he'd "do the same thing" if put in a similar situation.
Mbappe scored one goal and assisted another but also picked up his first career red card -- a straight red after clashing with Teji Savanier late on, despite having a yellow card from earlier in the match -- after angrily reacting to an ugly challenge from behind with the game already decided.
However, the France international said he was sticking up for himself and would do it again if needed.
"No, no, no," said Mbappe in the mixed zone after the win. "If I had the chance to do it over again, I would do the same thing.
"I will apologise to the supporters and everybody, but I cannot tolerate this sort of thing.
"It was an accumulation of things. It was the last action. I do not think that it has a place on the pitch but that does not matter. The referee made a decision and like I said, PSG are above that -- we are above that."
Neymar and Angel Di Maria gave PSG a lead on the day but it was left to Mbappe and Edinson Cavani to secure all three points after Antonin Bobichon and Savanier had looked like rescuing a point at 2-2.
Di Maria, in particular, scored in spectacular fashion from a corner kick and afterward revealed his delight at finally succeeding with an Olympic goal.
"My goal," said Di Maria after the final whistle at Stade de Costieres. "I have tried to do that several times -- I am very happy to have finally pulled it off!
"I saw that there was a space at the near post, so I went for it. It went in and that is great!"
"It was a difficult game, but we expected that. Nimes are a tough team to take on, which we saw this evening. However, we were able to do what had to be done to get the win."
Coach Thomas Tuchel was most impressed by the character his team showed after being pegged back at 2-2 after being 2-0 up.
"We showed character," the German said. "We were ready to suffer, so I am very happy with the attitude and performance of my players -- it is very difficult to win here.
"We had a good first half, but it was a lot tougher in the second because we did not manage to score a third goal quickly enough.
"Our reaction after their equaliser was superb, though, and I want to congratulate my players for that."
Cavani was happy to get his second goal in as many games.
"The most important thing was to win," El Matador said to Canal+. "I am happy to have scored but the win is the most important thing.
"We have a very good squad with a very good attitude. We are having a very good start to the season, and I hope we will keep improving."
Thomas Meunier, who assisted Neymar's opener, admitted that PSG "did not make life easy for ourselves," while goalkeeper Alphonse Areola revealed that he and his teammates "heard our fans throughout the game -- we know they are behind us all the time."
