Sources: Real Madrid's Eden Hazard to have surgery on broken leg in U.S.

Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard will travel to the United States this week to undergo surgery on a fracture in his right fibula, sources tell ESPN.

The 29-year-old was injured in the 67th minute of Madrid's 1-0 defeat to Levante on Feb 22.

It was just his second appearance after returning from an almost three-month long injury layoff with a microfracture in his right ankle sustained against Paris Saint-Germain in November.

Club sources have confirmed to ESPN that Hazard will have an operation in Dallas on Thursday or Friday. He will travel with Real Madrid's head of medical services, Niko Mihic.

The decision was a mutual one between club and player as they look to solve a problem that has majorly disrupted the €100 million signing's debut season in Madrid.

After opting for a more conservative approach in November, the aim now is to focus on a complete recovery without hurrying Hazard back.

The Belgium international had been expected to be absent for two months.

He has made just nine starts in La Liga this season, scoring one goal.
