The forward, who had an injury-hit spell at Goodison Park last season, is keen to return and the two clubs have held discussions, sources have told ESPN FC.
Traore joined Everton on loan on Jan. 24, just 20 days after moving to Ligue 1 club Monaco from Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala.
But the 24-year-old Ivory Coast international managed only one appearance for the Toffees, scoring in a 3-1 FA Cup fifth-round victory over Swansea.
He suffered a hamstring injury in the warm-up for a Premier League match at Chelsea six days later and sat out the remainder of the season.
Traore made a comeback when he played 63 minutes of a friendly for Ivory Coast as they lost 2-1 to Bosnia-Herzegovina in St Louis, U.S. on May 31 -- but coach Sabri Lamouchi decided to leave him out of his final 23-man squad for the World Cup.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of a busy season that will include at least six Europa League fixtures, and sees Traore as an option.
