Januzaj takes over Giggs' No. 11 shirt

Adnan Januzaj has been given the honour of taking over from Ryan Giggs in Manchester United's No. 11 shirt.

Assistant manager Giggs retired as a player in the summer and new manager Louis van Gaal has nominated the teenage Belgian, who wore No. 44 last season, to replace him as the No. 11.

Squad numbers were introduced in the 1993-94 season, and Giggs was the only player in the Premier League to have the same number for the past 21 years.

New signing Luke Shaw, who joined from Southampton for 27 million pounds, takes over from the departed Patrice Evra as United's No.3, despite wearing No. 28 in preseason.

The other new signing, Ander Herrera, will wear No. 21 but United have three prominent gaps, with no one allocated Nos. 5, 7 or 9 yet, meaning they could be given to new signings.

Anderson, who lost his No. 8 shirt when Juan Mata joined from Chelsea in January, is given the No. 28 while Nick Powell, who was out on loan at Wigan last season, takes No. 22.

The only change sees young striker James Wilson move to No. 49.
