Kris Commons admits the end of his contract stalemate is a huge relief after Celtic finally gave him the two-year contract he craved.
Commons looked set to move on amid interest from Bolton and his former boss, Neil Lennon, when he threw his boots to the Celtic fans after a 2-0 win at Hamilton on Jan. 17.
But he has become an increasingly central player for manager Ronny Deila in recent weeks and no move materialised ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday night.
And Celtic announced on Thursday afternoon that the 31-year-old had signed on until the summer of 2017.
Celtic were initially reluctant to give the former Scotland international a two-year deal, opening the prospect of him leaving for nothing in the summer, with Deila once claiming it was dangerous to give older players that length of contract.
But the impasse has ended, much to Commons' delight.
"It's a huge burden off my shoulders and now I can concentrate on the proper stuff of playing football and winning trophies for this club," the former Derby and Nottingham Forest player told Celtic TV.
"I'm absolutely buzzing. It's been a strange couple of months. Obviously speculation is never good for the mind and trying to play at the top level.
"So now that's put to bed I can concentrate on football and trying to get this club trophies.
"It's a massive relief for not just myself but my family."
Commons did not initially appear to be a favourite of Deila's despite netting 32 goals last season.
The attacking midfielder did not start either leg of Celtic's unsuccessful final Champions League qualifier against Maribor in August and Deila did not appear to favour him as he tried to instil a high-intensity pressing game.
But Commons has started all of Celtic's five games in 2015 and netted a spectacular strike in Sunday's 2-0 QTS Scottish League Cup semifinal win over Rangers.
Deila told Commons to "get some new boots" after his gesture at New Douglas Park and the Norwegian expressed his pleasure at the new deal.
Deila said in a statement: "He is someone who has already made a great contribution to Celtic and I am sure he will continue to be a very important player for us as we work hard to bring our fans the success they deserve.
"We have had a good week after reaching the League Cup final and following the fantastic signings of Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven, Kris' contract extension is even more great news for the club and our supporters."
Commons is now looking to build on his perfect week as Celtic continue their quest for success on four fronts with a William Hill Scottish Cup tie at Dundee on Saturday.
Commons, who has scored 74 goals in four years at Celtic Park, said: "I've loved my time at Celtic and this is where I want to continue playing my football.
"The club is in a great place, we're still in four competitions this season, and already have a cup final to look forward to, and I want to continue playing my part in bringing more success to the club.
"I'm also delighted to continue playing in front of these magnificent fans, who have been brilliant with me and my family from the day I joined Celtic."
