Schalke general manager Horst Heldt confirmed on Thursday that Farfan had asked for a transfer.
The winger signed a three-year deal for what Heldt called "financially enormous" wages. Kicker placed the amount at just over €10 million per year.
"He was always an important player for us and we missed Jeff last season," Heldt said on his club's website. "We will remember all of the good games he played for us."
Farfan joined Schalke from PSV Eindhoven in 2008 and has made over 200 appearances for the club, scoring 53 goals, though he saw his playing time last season restricted by injuries
He impressed at the recent Copa America in Chile, playing in four of Peru's five games as they reached the semifinals.
Schalke, who finished sixth in the Bundesliga last season, could use the money to fund the purchase of Inter Milan attacking midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.
Al Jazira finished second in the Arabian Gulf League last season.
