Naldo delighted with Wolfsburg's win over Man Utd in Champions League

Wolfsburg defender Naldo said he is "proud" of the club after they made history by knocking Manchester United out of the Champions League.

The Bundesliga side qualified for the knockout stages of the competition for the first ever time following Tuesday's 3-2 victory against United.

Wolfsburg secured their berth in the last 16 -- finishing top of Group B -- with the help of a brace from Naldo and another goal from Vierinha.

"The whole team did very, very well. I am proud to have scored two goals and of the complete team," Naldo, who quickly cancelled out Anthony Martial's opener as well as Josuha Guilavogui's 82nd-minute own goal, told Wolfsburg's official website.

The Brazilian, however, was booked by referee Milorad Mazic and will be suspended for Wolfsburg's opening last-16 clash, when they take on one of the teams finishing second in their Champions League group.

"Unfortunately I won't be able to play in the first leg of the round of 16, but I think we have enough good players to compensate for that," Naldo said.

Wolfsburg's Germany international Max Kruse, who missed a clear-cut chance to make it 3-1 in the 68th minute, heaped praise on Naldo.

"It was clear to see that we can call upon a great deal of quality. We are really delighted for Naldo," he said. "Those were very important goals for the team and the entire club."

The former Borussia Monchengladbach attacker said that the club have now reached their target in the Champions League and added "everything else that comes along now is an encore."

Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs said the club "deserve to be in the next round," although he felt the game was "too tense" for his liking, especially after the last-minute defeat against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

"Maybe I am slightly biased by the situation at the weekend," he added.

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking highlighted a "great game from two teams who knew what was at stake."

"It was clear to see that we were inspired," he added. "In such games you need that stroke of luck -- and we had that. We are deservedly through to the next round as group winners."
