Sven Bender hopes Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mats Hummels sign deals

Sven Bender has told kicker that he "belongs to Borussia Dortmund" and he hopes some of his teammates will follow him in committing to the club.

Last week, Bender, 26, signed a new contract with Dortmund to keep him at the club until 2021.

"It'd be great if it works that I see out my contract here. I'd be able to look back on 12 years at BVB, and a cool career," the midfielder said.

Bender added that he never really considered leaving Dortmund despite struggling for playing time at the beginning of the season.

"Changes just for the sake of it don't automatically make sense," Bender said. "I appreciate what I have here. As long as I feel trust, I will stay here.

"The club just fits me. BVB's like me. Down-to-earth. And stands for solid, and clear work."

When Dortmund announced Bender's new contract last week, the player said he hopes to lead the way for the signatures of the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan and Marcel Schmelzer, who are all have just over a season left on their current deals.

"We didn't really discuss [my statement] in the dressing room. I just wanted to say that we are a totally committed bunch of guys, and it's a whole lot of fun," Bender said.

"I hope that it was food for thought for one or two players to not give it up. I don't want to pressure anyone, but would personally be delighted if a few would opt for Borussia in the end."

Meanwhile, Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is only one step away from equalling a 43-year-old league record.

The Gabon international scored in added time as Borussia beat Hoffenheim 3-1 at the Westfalenstadion on Sunday.

Aubameyang has now scored in 11 consecutive league matches at home, and he could equal the record currently held by Jupp Heynckes and Gerd Muller in Dortmund's meeting with Bayern next weekend.

Heynckes found the back of the net in 12 consecutive home games in the 1972-73 season, and Muller achieved the feat in the 1969-70 season.
