Claudio Pizarro eyes Werder Bremen goal-scoring record on Bayern return

Werder Bremen's Claudio Pizarro is looking forward to a reunion with his old club Bayern Munich at the weekend.

Pizarro, 37, hopes he can mark the occasion by equalling the Bremen goal-scoring record of 101 goals.

The Peru international has nine goals this season, taking his Werder tally to 100 -- just one short of Marco Bode's record.

Pizarro has made a total of 405 Bundesliga appearances for Bremen and Bayern, scoring 187 goals -- more than any other foreign player in the league's history.

He is its fifth-highest scorer of all time, with only Manfred Burgsmuller, Jupp Heynckes, Klaus Fischer and Gerd Muller having scored more.

Bayern star Robert Lewandowski, with 114 strikes, and Hoffenheim's Kevin Kuranyi are the only two other current Bundesliga players to have reached triple figures.

And Pizarro told German football magazine kicker: "Of course this will be a special match against old colleagues at the Allianz Arena.

"I hope that we can score at Bayern, and preferably through a goal of mine.

"We've still got nine games left this season. I think I will do it [equal the record]. Maybe even in Munich."

Bremen travel to Munich as clear outsiders. They have lost their last 10 league games against the Bavarians, and their last win against them was a 5-2 thumping back in 2008.
