'Gabigol' hopes to make Brazil impression in Neymar's absence

Gabriel "Gabigol" Barbosa admits receiving his first senior Brazil call-up as the result of a suspension to Neymar is "not ideal" but hopes to prove his worth in Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against Paraguay.

Santos youngster Gabriel has been tipped to follow in Neymar's footsteps for some time and the 19-year-old could now be in line for his senior international debut after the Barcelona star was shown a yellow card in Friday's 2-2 draw with Uruguay.

Dunga has also called up Corinthians defender Felipe after PSG's David Luiz was cautioned in that game, and the pressure is on for the trip to Asuncion as Brazil seek to secure a top-four finish in CONMEBOL qualifying and seal a place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Gabriel said: "Debuting because Neymar isn't there is not ideal, but I'm here to add something to the team and help with my playing."

He will miss Santos' game with Ferroviaria this week, and added: "I think my debut is sad for Santos, but to me it is very good."

Brazil are currently third in the table for the 2018 World Cup, level on points with Paraguay and Argentina below them with Chile and Colombia both one point behind, so must be careful to avoid any slip-ups.

"We have to be very focused and play with determination," he said. "It is going to be a tough match, but we have the conditions to win."

Gabriel has been tipped to play a leading role alongside Neymar at this summer's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro after scoring six goals in four matches for the under-23 side last year, and he told ESPN FC last month that featuring in the tournament "would be a dream."

However, he said Dunga and U23 coach Rogerio Micale were still discussing the matter.

"No, nothing is certain about the Olympics," Gabriel said. "There is still a lot of time. I am working with Micale -- I understand that he is speaking with Dunga. Even when they are far away from each other they work together.

"The work with the Olympic team is very good and all of that will help me now with the main Selecao."
