Mexico's 40-man Copa America squad includes Chicharito and Gio dos Santos

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio named El Tri's 40-player preliminary squad list for this summer's Copa America in the United States on Monday, with no real surprises jumping out.

Veteran Rafa Marquez's place had been in some doubt after a less-than-impressive season with Atlas, but the former Barcelona player has made the first cut, with the final 23-player squad set to be announced on May 20.

All of Mexico's most prominent Europe-based players are involved, including Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, Carlos Vela and Guillermo Ochoa, although there was no place for Olympiakos striker Alan Pulido.

LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos hasn't featured yet for El Tri under Osorio and hasn't played a game for Mexico since last summer's Gold Cup, but he was included by the Colombian.

Of those eligible as under-23 players for the Olympics in August, Raul Lopez (Chivas), Carlos Salcedo (Chivas), Rodolfo Pizarro (Pachuca), Orbelin Pineda (Pachuca), Jesus "Tecatito" Corona (Porto) and Hirving Lozano (Pachuca) will be available should Osorio decide to pick them for the Copa America.

Mexico is in Group C of the Copa America Centenario, alongside Jamaica, Uruguay and Venezuela. The squad opens its campaign against Uruguay in Phoenix on June 5.
