Romeo Castelen, Andreu, Alberto among six released by the Wanderers

Dutchman Romeo Castelen and Spanish duo Andreu and Alberto are among six players to leave A-League runners-up Western Sydney.

The trio and Golgol Mebrahtu, Federico Piovaccari and Matt Sim won't be offered fresh contracts by the Wanderers, the club confirmed on Thursday.

Castelen played 53 games in various competitions for the Wanderers and departs just a fortnight after scoring a semifinal hat trick.

"I was happy I could play a big part and show the people in Australia and especially in western Sydney my talent," Castelen said in the club statement.

Spanish duo Andreu and Alberto this season joined the Wanderers, who last Sunday lost the grand final to Adelaide United.

"My season at the Wanderers has been the best in my life," Andreu said.

"[Coach Tony Popovich] has been the best coach of my career."

Forward Golgol Mebrahtu joined Western Sydney in January 2014 following a mid-season switch from Melbourne Heart (now Melbourne City) but his stint was plagued by injury, including a serious knee issue just six minutes into his debut for the club.

Mebrahtu made only 10 appearances over three seasons for the Wanderers, Piovaccari played all his 14 matches for the club this season, while Sim was a mid-season transfer from Central Coast and made one appearance for the Wanderers.
