Schalke to sign Naldo from Wolfsburg after Manchester United reports

Schalke have announced the signing of reported Manchester United target Naldo on a free transfer from Wolfsburg.

Naldo, 33, will join Schalke on a two-year contact, with an option for a further season, as his current terms at Wolfsburg are due to expire on June 30.

The Brazilian defender has been at Wolfsburg since signing for the club from Werder Bremen in 2012.

Naldo said on Schalke's official website: "I had a fantastic time at Wolfsburg with great successes. I will always have the club and the city in my heart.

"Everyone at VfL knows just how much this club means to me. But in our talks [Schalke sporting executive] Christian Heidel caught my imagination so that I now have a great hunger for this challenge to be successful with this really good team at Schalke."

Heidel added: "When we learned that Naldo is available we immediately were after him. It was very important to win such an experienced player for our young, talented and developable squad."
