Leicester City open contract talks with Danny Simpson - source

Leicester City have opened contract talks with defender Danny Simpson over a new deal at the King Power Stadium, a source close to the London club has told ESPN FC.

Simpson was one of Leicester's unsung heroes as they secured an unlikely Premier League title success, and the source says the Foxes have offered him a new two-year deal to keep him at the King Power Stadium until 2018.

The right-back is entering the final year of his contract at Leicester and the club are keen to secure him on a new deal.

The former Newcastle man formed an integral part of Leicester's rearguard alongside Wes Morgan, Robert Huth and Christian Fuchs to help Leicester have one of the meanest defences in England last season.

Simpson made 32 appearances in all competitions for Leicester and established himself as a key member of Claudio Ranieri's starting lineup.

Leicester have opened talks with a number of their title-winning stars as they look to ward off potential interest from rival clubs in their players.

Sources have confirmed that Arsenal triggered the release clause of striker Jamie Vardy, who is set to have a medical with the Gunners on Sunday.
