Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez has ruled out the signing of Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori this summer.
Fernandez was in Boston on Saturday to watch Argentina's Copa America 4-1 quarterfinal win over Venezuela, with suggestions that he was there to scout the 25-year-old defender.
However, Sport reports that the primary reason for his trip was to check on the progress of Barcelona's Lionel Messi and to have talks with Javier Mascherano over his uncertain future.
Fernandez said: "He's a good player and we've known him well for a long time, but we're not going to sign him this summer."
Funes Mori joined Everton from River Plate last summer and made 28 Premier League appearances last season.
