Borussia Dortmund want to sign Andre Schurrle - Wolfsburg sporting director

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs claims Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Andre Schurrle.

Schurrle, 25, joined Wolfsburg from Chelsea for £22 million in February 2015 and has gone on to make 63 appearances for the club.

However, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan's departure to Manchester United, Dortmund are looking to strengthen and coach Thomas Tuchel sees a reunion with the former Mainz attacker as a potential replacement.

And despite Schurrle's recent refusal to discuss a potential transfer while on international duty with Germany at Euro 2016, Allofs believes Dortmund's interest is playing on his mind.

"It's clear that Dortmund's interest in Schurrle is related to his past with Tuchel," Allofs was quoted as saying by WAZ. "We want to hold on to Andre and qualify for the Champions League again with him.

"But we obviously have to look at the economical side of things as well. Although we do not have to sell. It's not true that we have to sell players to balance the books. We need a good team.

"I cannot say anything about whether Dortmund have already made an offer."

The former Chelsea player scored nine league goals last season and has a contract with Wolfsburg until June 2019.

Dortmund's first competitive fixture of the season is away to Eintracht Trier on Aug. 19 in the DFB Pokal.
