Fiorentina may offload Mario Gomez, Giuseppe Rossi - club chief

Fiorentina need to offload at least one more forward this summer, according to general manager Pantaleo Corvino, with Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez the likely candidates.

Ante Rebic has already been moved on by the Viola, with the attacker joining Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on loan last week.

But Corvino still feels the Serie A club have too many forwards on their books and that this area of the squad needs trimming.

"At the start, we had six forwards and now we're down to five because we've got rid of Rebic, but the coach and the club still feel the remaining five are too many," he said at a news conference.

"We can't keep five forwards, especially because when they are all such good forwards. We're going to have to make decisions based on what the transfer market offers us."

Gomez returns to Florence this summer after a season-long loan at Besiktas, where he discovered some of his best form and earned a place in Germany's squad for Euro 2016, while Rossi is back after a loan spell with Levante.

Neither are expected to remain Fiorentina players this season, but until a suitable offer comes in for either, they will be expected to take part in preseason training.

Meanwhile, Nikola Kalinic, a player Fiorentina are keen to keep hold of, is the subject of interest from Leicester City.

Should an offer be accepted for the forward, the Viola would have less need to sell Rossi and Gomez, even if the pair do not appear to figure highly in the plans of coach Paulo Sousa.
