Rangers remain on course to sign Leicester's Joe Dodoo - Warburton

Rangers remain on course to sign forward Joe Dodoo but manager Mark Warburton admits he is now unlikely to feature against Annan.

Warburton had hoped to include the 21-year-old in his squad for the Betfred Cup clash on Tuesday night, but concluding his move from Leicester is taking more time. Dodoo is out of contract but Rangers have to pay a compensation fee.

Speaking at the club's training ground on Monday, Warburton said: "I'm hoping the paperwork is being finalised. The two clubs are talking. It's above my pay grade so I will let the clever people get on with that and I'll do my stuff out there.

"I think it will be too late for tomorrow night but fingers crossed we can get that one to completion.

"He has trained with us and he's a top young lad and a top young talent as well. I'll be excited to get him on board.''

The Ibrox fans will still have a host of new faces to watch against the Ladbrokes League Two side.

After starting with a familiar lineup during Saturday's 2-0 cup win at Motherwell, Warburton confirmed that summer signings Matt Gilks, Lee Hodson, Clint Hill, Josh Windass and Niko Kranjcar would all start against Annan and Joey Barton would come off the bench.

The former Brentford boss added: "It's a fantastic football stadium and the pitch is in magnificent shape, so we want the players to get used to that.

"It won't be a 50,000 sell-out of course but it will be great for the players to experience a game under lights, the smell of the grass, and what Ibrox is all about.

"We will use the squad over these four games and Burnley is another step up in terms of quality, and we have to use that game wisely as well.

"But I want all the squad to know what it's like at Ibrox and look forward to that first [Premiership] game, which will be a complete sell-out.''

Warburton's other two summer signings are unavailable. Matt Crooks is still working his way back from an ankle operation while Jordan Rossiter is on England Under-19 duty.
