Isaac Brizuela stars as Chivas down America in Mexico's Clasico Nacional

Winger Isaac Brizuela netted two first-half goals to help Chivas defeat Club America 3-0 on Saturday in Mexico's Clasico Nacional in a memorable result for the Guadalajara side.

Brizuela opened the scoring inside a full Estadio Azteca in the 19th minute and added his second in the 32nd, with both goals coming via assists from Eduardo "La Chofis" Lopez. Carlos Pena netted the third score five minutes from the end.

The victory against bitter rival America in round seven of matches in the Apertura 2016 lifts Chivas into seventh place in the Liga MX on 11 points, while Las Aguilas are fifth, also on 11 points.

Chivas -- who only play with Mexican players -- dominated the game in Mexico City, and the Guadalajara side's work rate and intensity was too much for a lackluster Club America, who went into the game as the favorite.

Brizuela tapped in from close range for the opener, after Angel Zaldivar set Lopez free down the left wing to send in a low cross.

Chivas' second was similar, with America struggling to curb Guadalajara's counterattacking. Zaldivar again played the ball to Lopez, who stroked an inch-perfect through-ball to send Brizuela through on goal to finish.

Pena wrapped up the scoring with a simple headed finish from a Brizuela cross.

In other games in the Liga MX on Saturday, Necaxa defeated Queretaro 2-1; Atlas drew 1-1 with Cruz Azul; Tigres tied 1-1 with Veracruz; and Pachuca and Monterrey also finished level at 1-1.
