Khairy hands pen drive to Malaysian authorities, wants content to go public

Malaysian Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin submitted the much-discussed pen drive, given to him by the Crown Prince of Johor, to the nation's Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Friday.

It contains alleged activity of corruption within Malaysian football, according to the Prince.

Khairy, who passed the pen drive to MACC investigation director Azam Baki, also requested that the anti-corruption agency reveal its details to the Malaysian people.

"Because this is a case of public importance, and many assumptions have been made, I have suggested to MACC to make the contents for public viewing," Khairy was quoted by Bernama.

"MACC have asked for some time to analyse the documents, and conduct their own investigation before going public with it."

The Johor Darul Ta'zim owner, known as TMJ, had earlier submitted the 279-page document, from the pen drive, to Khairy on Aug. 26 after saying that he wanted to wash his hands clean from national football affairs.

Khairy personally went through the contents of the device before deciding to hand it over to MACC.

"Even though the pen drive only contains information on the technical aspect of football, I will hand it over to the MACC for transparency sake," Khairy had announced on his Twitter page on Thursday.

Khairy had earlier said that, besides the technical report of the FA of Malaysia (FAM), the device also had information on the national football and futsal team, as well as coaching and development details.

The saga began when TMJ declared that the pen drive could implicate certain top administrators within FAM, and urged them to step down from their positions.

As a result, the national body executive committee board decided to bring forward their elections from 2018 to 2017, on a date yet to be decided.

The national body has also welcomed the MACC to open investigations.

"If there are officials up to no good in FAM, the MACC or the police can take action. We will have to wait and see," said FAM general secretary Hamidin Amin, as quoted by UtusanOnline.
