Everton's Seamus Coleman fit to play; James McCarthy out for three weeks

Everton defender Seamus Coleman is fit to make his season debut, though midfielder James McCarthy will miss the next three weeks with a groin injury.

Manager Ronald Koeman revealed the udpates at his news conference on Thursday ahead of Monday's Premier League clash at Sunderland.

Coleman has been overcoming an ankle injury he suffered in preseason and played all 90 minutes in Republic of Ireland's draw with Serbia on Monday.

"He was fit to play [for Ireland] and he came back without any reaction," Koeman said. "He is fit to start."

However, the Toffees will be without McCarthy, who had surgery to repair a groin issue.

McCarthy missed Everton's most recent game against Stoke on Aug. 27, and also missed out on Ireland's World Cup qualifier.

The midfielder had been linked to a deadline day move away from Everton, and reports said only concerns over his fitness kept McCarthy at Goodison Park.
