Ex-Arsenal player Sanchez Watt involved in hilarious referee mix-up

A former Arsenal player managed to get himself embroiled in a refereeing gaffe when his surname sparked an outbreak of mass confusion during a non-league match on Tuesday night.

The referee initially booked Sanchez Watt for kicking the ball away as Hemel Hempstead hosted East Thurrock in the National League South and asked him for his name.

However, when the forward replied "Watt" three times in a row, the official duly administered a second yellow card for dissent, assuming the 27-year-old was refusing to answer.

Thankfully. Hemel Hempstead's captain Jordan Parkes was able to quickly intervene and explain the nature of the mix-up, which led to the red card being swiftly rescinded.

The home side went on to register a 2-0 win with Watt getting his name on the scoresheet -- though we can only speculate as to how long it took to get that right.
