Phoenix Rising make it 11-0-0 on $1 beer night

Clubs often try gimmicks to get supporters through the door. Some of them work, others fall flat. But USL Championship side Phoenix Rising have nailed it.

What's the best way to essentially bribe people to come and watch your team? Simple: beer.

Phoenix Rising introduced $1 beer night. As you might have worked out, it means you can get a beer (Bud Light) for just a dollar, at every Friday night home game. And there's happy-hour pricing on other drinks.

But it doesn't stop there, oh no.

Can't be bothered to get to the game? Don't worry! Phoenix Rising provides a free bus and has a timetable to pick fans up from a selection of local bars in Tempe, Arizona. And guess what? They'll take you back there after the game too!

No shock that they have been packing out their Casino Arizona Field stadium all season -- and have now sold out 10 games in a row.

There's more.

Not only have the club been winning with their beer promotion -- it's also led to fantastic results on the the pitch, backed by a partisan support.

Phoenix Rising have a perfect record of 11 consecutive victories on $1 beer night, the latest being this week's 5-0 thrashing of Tulsa Roughnecks. They will look to make it a dozen wins when they face Austin Bold FC next month. They are currently second in the Western Conference.

EA takes its iconic FIFA game back to the streets

Do you remember the halcyon days of FIFA Street? The three-on-three mode in some dusty concrete piece, a bit of graffiti, a points system for executing nifty tricks en route to goal? Well if you do - the game last appeared in 2012 - you'll be excited about this weekend's big reveal that a "street" mode has been added to FIFA 20.

Behold the dizzying glory of FIFA VOLTA Football:

Nifty, eh?

The game mode, added to FIFA 20 and scheduled for release on September 27, 2019, allows for a seemingly infinite range of customizations from player clothing to shoes that you can add to and unlock by completing various in-game challenges or tasks. There are multiple cities, pitches and urban environments from Amsterdam to a Tokyo rooftop and a variety of game modes - 3 vs. 3, 5 vs. 5 and more - to keep you interested.

There's apparently a separate VOLTA story mode if you're tired of being humiliated in online competition against people half your age.
