Watford are in talks with Fiorentina over a possible loan deal for Mauro Zarate, sources close to the Premier League club have told ESPN FC.
Watford boss Walter Mazzarri is keen to add to his attacking options during this month's transfer window to help his side out of their current slump in form and he has identified a move for the former Birmingham City, West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers forward.
The Hornets have struggled for goals this season -- only four teams have scored fewer -- and Mazzarri sees Zarate as someone who can score and provide goals at Vicarage Road.
Zarate has been unable to hold down a place in the Fiorentina side this season, making just one Serie A start for the Viola but scoring four goals in a total of eight appearances across all competitions.
The South American only joined Fiorentina last January from West Ham, but they are ready to let him move on as he does not figure in Paulo Sousa's plans.
Sources have told ESPN FC that the 29-year-old is open to the idea of a loan move this month and could be tempted by a return to England with Watford.
