CK Vineeth struck twice in extra time (107', 118') to help Bengaluru FC beat Mohun Bagan in the final and claim their second Federation Cup in four attempts.
The win helped Bengaluru automatically qualify for the 2018 AFC Cup. It was only their third win over Bagan in 13 meetings across all competitions and their first in three meetings in the Federation Cup. The previous two Federation Cup games between the two teams had ended in draws.
During the goalless 90 minutes, Bengaluru twice had a goal disallowed for offside. Vineeth, who came on as a second half substitute, got his first after a low shot from inside the box took a deflection past Bagan keeper Debjit Majumder. The second came from a shot from outside the box which found the bottom right corner despite Debjit getting a hand to it.
Bengaluru were without the injured Sunil Chhetri and the suspended Cameron Watson. Albert Roca gave Len Doungel a start, while Lenny Rodrigues joined Alwyn George and Eugeneson Lyngdoh in the midfield.
BFC thought they had the lead in the 19th minute when Udanta Singh volleyed home Lyngdoh's corner, but the goal was disallowed after Doungel, in an off-side position, was adjudged to have got a touch on its way in.
Bagan created few chances in the second half, but Sandesh Jhingan made a crucial goal line clearance from a Katsumi Yusa shot in the 31st minute to keep it at 0-0.
Bengaluru had a second goal disallowed in controversial fashion in the 49th minute, when Juanan Gonzalez's strike from close flagged off side.
The second half was more evenly contested, with both Amrinder Singh and Majumder pulling off important saves to take the game to extra time.
