Bayern Munich stars lead the way in kicker's biannual rankings

Manuel Neuer and Philipp Lahm were named best goalkeeper and full-back as Bayern Munich dominated kicker's German football rankings.

The magazine ranks players in all positions and divides them into four categories: world class, international class, players of note and players in focus.

Neuer, 31, who last season won his fifth consecutive Bundesliga title, was the only goalkeeper deemed world class in the magazine's prestigious biannual rankings.

Mats Hummels led the centre-back rankings while Niklas Sule, who moves to Bayern from Hoffenheim this summer, split the former BVB captain and Javi Martinez in the international class.

Jerome Boateng, rated world class last season and voted German Footballer of the Year 12 months ago, was missing after an injury-ravaged season when he could only manage 10 Bundesliga starts. With Boateng's injury problems, Hummels and Martinez was Bayern's most frequently used partnership in central defence last season.

Lahm, who retired at the end of the season, was the only full-back worthy of international class status according to kicker, while his full-back partner, David Alaba, finished behind Arsenal-bound Sead Kolasinac of Schalke in the players of note category.

Spain international Juan Bernat slipped down to the bottom category of players in focus after making only 13 Bundesliga starts.

The rankings for midfielders and attackers is set for publication on Monday.
