Frankfurt 'irritated' not to be informed of Alex Meier's ankle injury

Eintracht Frankfurt have said they are "irritated" that Alex Meier failed to inform them about the severity of an ankle injury sustained while working out on holiday in Florida.

Meier, 34, had surgery on the ankle last week and will be unavailable for two months while he recovers.

But, while wishing their attacker a "speedy recovery," the club also noted that Meier failed to fulfil his obligations as a Frankfurt employee.

"The player and his agent informed Eintracht Frankfurt's sporting hierarchy about the circumstance on the day of the surgery," an official club statement said. "However, Eintracht's medical department was only supplied with the necessary details regarding the injury on Thursday 22."

Frankfurt sporting executive Fredi Bobic added: "It hits us hard that Alex has sustained an injury on holiday, but we are irritated that only today we received information about the injury.

"In the case of an injury, the player is obliged to inform the club. And Alex failed to meet it."

Frankfurt also announced that the club's new signing Carlos Salcedo will miss up to three months after sustaining a shoulder injury in Mexico's Confederation Cup match against New Zealand earlier this week.
