United States striker Rubio Rubin is set to begin a training stint with Norwegian side Stabaek, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation have told ESPN FC.
Rubin, 21, is currently looking for a new club after struggling for playing time last season.
Rubin began the 2016-17 campaign with Utrecht, but made just three first-team appearances, and then another six with Utrecht's reserve side.
He was transferred to Danish side Silkeborg in midseason, where he made four league and cup appearances.
Rubin's arrival could be a case of good timing. According to The Sun, last season's leading scorer for Stabaek, Ohi Omoijuanfo, is currently a target of English Championship sides Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday, and Queens Park Rangers.
If Omoijuanfo does move on, that could create an opening for Rubin, who according to one source is also attracting interest from several Liga MX and MLS clubs.
All told, Rubin spent parts of three seasons with Utrecht, scoring three goals in 41 league and cup appearances.
At international level, Rubin has also made three appearances for the U.S., the last of which came in 2015.
