Lobos BUAP release William Palacios after he was involved in fight

Liga MX club Lobos BUAP have released 23-year-old Colombian winger William Palacios after he was involved in a fight in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Palacios celebrated Lobos BUAP's 3-2 victory over Pachuca on Saturday by heading to Puebla -- the city the club is based in -- with Colombian teammate Julian Quinones after the win moved the recently promoted team into first position in Liga MX.

A Lobos BUAP statement released on Sunday said that Palacios provoked a brawl and suggested he was in an "inconvenient state," with the club adding that the behavior was unacceptable.

Quinones defended Palacios, according to the statement, and will also be punished by the club, which represents local university "Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla."

ESPN Mexico reported that both players went to hospital after the incident, with Palacios remaining under observation on Sunday morning.

Palacios has only played eight minutes for Lobos BUAP this 2017 Apertura, while Quinones has started all three games so far and is joint leader on the goal-scoring chart with three goals.
