Colorado Rapids eyeing Sheffield United's Billy Sharp - sources

The Colorado Rapids are interested in Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

However, United are unlikely to let Sharp move on without a fight, as the Blades look to maintain their push for promotion to the Premier League.

The Rapids have been busy in restructuring their team ahead of the new Major League Soccer season and have already raided the UK market to sign Danny Wilson from Rangers, Tommy Smith from Ipswich Town and Jack Price from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Sharp is also on their list of targets, with sources saying the Rapids have made enquiries about Sharp's availability to see if he would consider a move to the U.S.

Sharp's future at Sheffield United has been the subject of conjecture in recent weeks with the club captain losing his spot in the starting XI.

The 31-year-old has been on the bench for United's last five Championship games with Leon Clarke leading the line for Chris Wilder's side.

Sharp, who scored 30 last season as United won promotion to the Championship, has scored eight goals in 20 Championship appearances.
