Former Kenya Premier League MVP Daniel 'Mzee' Sserunkuma is determined to win the Uganda Premier League title after signing for Vipers SC.

Sserunkuma scored on his debut for the domestic heavyweights in their 1-0 victory over Soana FC at the Kavumba Stadium, having signed from struggling Express FC two weeks ago.

The former Gor Mahia FC hitman's effort takes Vipers up to 29 points in the UPL, level with KCCA FC who have played a game fewer, and four behind SC Villa.

"I am determined to pay the club back with goals that can propel them to winning the league title," Sserunkuma told the club's media officer.

"Vipers SC have showed they have faith in me and I will not let them down."

The club's Portuguese coach Jorge Miguel Da Costa Duarte his delighted with Sserunkuma's performance despite his side's overall profligacy on the day.

"I like the way he keeps the defenders on their toes," Da Coasta Duarte told KweseESPN, "and certainly this is a sign of good things to come."

The diminutive Sserunkuma has had a nomadic career, having played for Nairobi City Stars, Simba SC of Tanzania, Armenian side Ulisses and Ittihad Tanger in Morocco.

Vipers' hopes of a league success were boosted by 16-time champions SC Villa's own struggles this weekend, as the table toppers failed to extend their lead.

They were held by a 0-0 draw by Maroons FC at the Masaka Recreation Ground, with new boy Davis Kasirye drawing a blank against a disciplined and rugged defensive unit.

Elsewhere, Bidco FC beat former champions URA FC 1-0, Kirinya-Jinja S.S. won 1-0 at Proline FC, while there were draws between Masavu FC and UPDF FC, Onduparaka FC and Express FC, and Police FC and Mbarara City.
