Arsenal: Maanum collapse had 'no obvious cardiac causes'

Arsenal have confirmed that after extensive testing following Frida Maanum's collapse during the Conti Cup final on Sunday, "no obvious cardiac causes" were found.

The Norwegian midfielder collapsed off the ball in the fifth minute of stoppage time during Arsenal's 1-0 win over Chelsea in the final at Molineux. Stina Blackstenius scored the only goal of the match in the 116th minute.

"She has undergone extensive testing and support from our medical team at Arsenal," a statement from the club read. "The test results have been reviewed by two leading cardiologists and there are no obvious cardiac causes found from these thorough investigations so far.

"Frida has subsequently had a monitoring device fitted to record her heart function and will now undergo a progressive return to train protocol.

"Once Frida has been monitored for a full one-week period, her normal training will be closely reviewed and monitored, before a decision will be made on her returning to play."

Maanum was due to report to international duty with Norway on Monday ahead of their Euros 2025 qualifying games against Finland and the Netherlands.

The club confirmed that the 24-year-old will not be joining up with the Norway national team during this break.

Shortly after she was stretchered off the pitch on Sunday, a spokesperson for the club told ESPN that Maanum was "conscious, talking and in a stable condition."

The 77-cap international did not go to the hospital and travelled back to London with the team after the game. Maanum will remain with Arsenal to continue her recovery.
