FSU 'center' back on Big Board

Erving has had some impressive performances at tackle, but may be best at center. Justin K. Aller/Getty Images

A number of NFL rookies who have had the best success this year have done so through versatility. Zack Martin and Joel Bitonio are in different positions than they played last year in college. Anthony Barr is doing some different things in Minnesota than he did at UCLA; same with Chris Borland in San Francisco and Khalil Mack in Oakland. I'm not saying these guys are now right-handed when last year they were left-handed, but succeeding in the NFL is often about filling gaps that are open -- few teams want to hand jobs to rookies. A riser this week is already doing that at Florida State. Cameron Erving was at left tackle for a while -- and a good prospect there -- when coaches moved him inside to center. He's been outstanding since the move, and was outstanding again Saturday against Georgia Tech.
