ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills rookie receiver Sammy Watkins left Wednesday's practice with a groin injury and did not return.
"He could play, or he could be out for two to three weeks. I mean, who knows," coach Doug Marrone said after practice. "I don't know. I have no information other than that he didn't finish practice."
Watkins was walking around in the locker room after practice, but reporters were told he was not available to be interviewed.
The Bills are planning to do a precautionary MRI on Watkins' groin, but the team does not believe the injury to be serious, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The injury bothered Watkins in the game against the Vikings on Oct. 16, but he played through it, the source said. Watkins was listed a full participant on the injury report leading up to the Bills' game against the Jets in Week 8, the last game Buffalo played.
The fourth overall pick in May's draft is among the top candidates to be the NFL's offensive rookie of the year. In eight games, Watkins has caught 38 passes for 590 yards and five touchdowns.
Bills running back Fred Jackson was listed as a limited participant Wednesday after practicing for the first time since injuring his groin in an Oct. 19 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Doctors initially gave Jackson a month-long timetable for recovery.
"It's still limited [participation]. ... I'm not going to go out on a limb yet. [But] nothing Fred does ever surprises me or anyone around here," Marrone said. "It's a tough call. We're going to have to make a decision as it goes on. The thing is, it's hard to tell because you're not really playing at 100 percent."
