TEMPE, Ariz. -- With injuries to their top two tight ends -- out of three on the roster -- the Cardinals are adding depth and security at the position.
Arizona is signing free-agent tight end Jim Dray, his agent, Buddy Baker, confirmed to ESPN.
NFL Network first reported the signing.
Dray, 30, will add support to an injury-riddled unit. Jermaine Gresham hasn't practiced all week with an injury to his ribs and Troy Niklas was added to the injury report on Thursday with a hip injury. He was limited Thursday.
With just three tight ends on the roster, that left Ifeanyi Momah as the only healthy player in that room.
Dray is familiar with the Cardinals' offense. His last year with the franchise was 2013, coach Bruce Arians' first season. He started 15 of 16 games that season. Arizona drafted Dray in the seventh round in 2010.
He signed with Cleveland in 2014 and played with the Browns through the 2015 season, during which he started 18 games. Last season, Dray played for both the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers, starting one game for each and not recording a catch.
Dray set career highs in catches (26) and touchdowns (two) in 2013, and in yards (242) in 2014.
