FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley, who will miss his fifth straight game Sunday with a severe groin/abdominal injury, said he will know in the next week or two if he needs season-ending surgery. Mosley is hoping a recent injection of platelet-rich plasma will heal the injury, which has kept him out of eight games, but the window is closing. "I'm trying to do everything I can to avoid surgery and play," Mosley told ESPN on Friday. "Worst-case scenario: I'll have to get surgery if next week doesn't go well." Mosley, a four-time Pro Bowl selection with the Baltimore Ravens, suffered the injury in Week 1, then aggravated it in his Week 7 return. "If I can do anything to avoid ending my season, I'm going to try it," he said. "That's really the main reason why I got the shot. I have a 50-50 chance. I'd rather do that than cut my body open. That was the thinking on that." Mosley said he started jogging this week and will ramp up his rehab next week, saying he will do "more on-field stuff and we'll go from there." On Oct. 28, following his reinjury, the Jets said he'd be sidelined five to six weeks. There's no chance of him making it back on that timetable. With the Jets out of playoff contention, they may ultimately decide it's pointless to play him again this season. Coach Adam Gase didn't sound hopeful this week. Asked if he's optimistic about a return, he said, "We're just kind of going through that process and see where it takes us. I don't really know the answer to that." Mosley, who signed a five-year, $85 million contract in free agency, said he feels an obligation as a captain to do everything he can to play again. But reality appears to be setting in. "Over the next two weeks, if it's not getting better, then it's not healing on its own," he said. "Then I have to get surgery."
