BALTIMORE -- Baltimore Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley suffered a serious left ankle injury late in the first quarter of Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and will miss the rest of the season.
The All-Pro was carted off the field just two days after he signed a five-year, $98.75 million extension.
"I feel bad for Ronnie. He's a guy who's been playing well," Harbaugh said. "He's worked very hard to be out there and to contribute. That's the nature of the game, often times, unfortunately."
On Twitter, Stanley posted: "So many emotions running thru my head. I'm thankful for all the love and support. I hate feeling like I let my brothers down. What I do know is God doesn't make mistakes and I'm grateful for the bad days just as much as the good. Just another challenge to overcome. Truzzz."
In the final minute of the first quarter, Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt inadvertently rolled into the back of Stanley's lower left leg while trying to sack quarterback Lamar Jackson. Stanley, 26, appeared to be in a lot of pain, pounding his fist on the ground.
Stanley had his left leg placed in an air cast. As Stanley was helped into the cart, the entire Ravens team swarmed around him in support.
"That's our brother. We wanted to win this game for him," Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said. "He means a lot to our offense. I hope he's doing good. I'm just sorry we couldn't get the victory for him."
Entering Sunday, Stanley had a pass block win rate of 96.8%, the highest among qualified offensive tackles. His 78.3% run block win rate ranks ninth among tackles.
"Losing a leader like that to this team and offensive line, it's hard to put into words the effect that takes as far as morale," said Orlando Brown Jr., who now becomes the Ravens' left tackle for the rest of the season. "Unfortunately, the mentality is next man up."
Baltimore played the final three quarters without two of its starting offensive linemen. Before Stanley went down, right guard Tyre Phillips left with an ankle injury.
Juggling the offensive line, the Ravens moved Brown from right to left tackle and inserted Patrick Mekari (right guard) and D.J. Fluker (right tackle) off the bench. Baltimore rushed for 265 yards but it allowed four sacks.
