CINCINNATI -- Anthony Averett became the latest Baltimore Ravens cornerback to suffer a significant injury.
Averett was ruled out of Sunday's 41-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals after suffering a chest injury in the first quarter. He was holding his left side as he was carted off the field.
A fourth-round pick in 2018, Averett stepped up to start 13 games this season for the Ravens, who have already lost Pro Bowl cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey (torn pectoral muscle) and Marcus Peters (torn ACL) to season-ending injuries. There are also two Ravens cornerbacks who are on the reserve/COVID-19 list: Jimmy Smith and Chris Westry.
Baltimore replaced Averett with Daryl Worley, a six-year veteran who was signed five days ago.
With a depleted secondary, the Ravens allowed their most passing yards ever in a first half. Joe Burrow threw for 299 yards as the Bengals ran out to a 31-14 halftime lead. He finished the game with 525 passing yards to set a Bengals franchise record.
