Bo Nix leads Broncos to TD on game's opening drive

DENVER -- It took eight weeks, but the Denver Broncos scored Sunday on their first possession of a game for the first time since a Week 3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Broncos took their opening possession against the Atlanta Falcons 70 yards on 10 plays. They finished it off with a 12-yard completion from quarterback Bo Nix to tight end Nate Adkins.

It was Nix's 11th touchdown pass of the season and his sixth in the last three games. Nix had completed an 8-yard pass to rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele on the previous play, but Atlanta safety Richie Grant was called for unnecessary roughness for a forearm to Vele's helmet, that moved the ball to the 12.

Nix found Adkins roaming free on the next play for the score and a 7-0 lead.

Running back Javonte Williams added the Broncos' second touchdown with 6 minutes, 16 seconds left in the first half with a little rugby flavor to the run.

Williams took a handoff from Nix on a second-and-4 from the Atlanta 14-yard line.

Williams went over the left side and was met by former Broncos safety Justin Simmons at the Falcons' 6. And as Williams had pushed Simmons to the 4, most of Williams' offensive teammates including the bulk of the starting offensive line arrived. The group shoved Williams into the end zone for a 14-3 lead.
