Diana Taurasi marries former Mercury teammate Penny Taylor

Phoenix Mercury star guard Diana Taurasi has married former teammate Penny Taylor, who now works for the team as an executive.

Taurasi and Taylor were married Saturday, which Taurasi described as "one of the happiest days we've ever had."

Taurasi, 34, has spent her entire WNBA career with the Mercury since being drafted by Phoenix with the No. 1 overall pick in 2004. Taurasi and Taylor were teammates with the Mercury for parts of 10 seasons before Taylor retired last year and was hired as the team's director of player development.

"We're just really happy," Taurasi told the Arizona Republic on Sunday after the Mercury's season opener against the Dallas Wings. "It was one of the times where all our families were together, all the people we love and care for in the city that we met and evolved as teammates and wives now."

Taurasi, a seven-time All-Star and former league MVP, told the Republic that she and Taylor previously had kept their relationship private, saying they "didn't want that to be an issue ever."

Taurasi and Taylor, 35, helped the Mercury win three WNBA championships (2007, 2009, 2014) during their stint as teammates.
