Patrick Mahomes II throws his first interception during a competitive drill at camp

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – It had to happen sometime and the day was Thursday for Kansas City Chiefs rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes II. He threw an interception during a competitive period at training camp.

Mahomes completed 7-of-12 passes with the interception during full team drills and 5-of-9 during 7-on-7 drills. His highlight and lowlight of the practice session:

Wow moment: Mahomes showed his big arm during a 7-on-7 drill throwing a dart to the far sideline to tight end Ross Travis.

Whoa moment: The interception, by rookie safety Leon McQuay III, came after Mahomes threw the ball beyond his intended receiver, Marcus Kemp. McQuay earlier dropped what would have been the first interception of a Mahomes pass.
