Gennady Golovkin said he would be open to return to the UK to fight Billy Joe Saunders if he beats Kell Brook on Sept. 10.
Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) defends his three world middleweight titles against Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, and if victorious in his UK debut, it could set up a return to take on fellow unbeaten Briton Saunders next.
Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) has not fought since winning the WBO belt from Irishman Andy Lee on points in December and shortly after turned down an offer -- believed to be £2.2 million -- to fight Golovkin next.
But Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler, says making a fight with Saunders will be one of the top priorities, so long as the California-based Kazakhstan boxer defends his WBA, WBC and IBF titles against Brook, who is stepping up two weight classes for his shot.
"From our perspective we hope the fight with Saunders can happen because Gennady's goal is to unify all the belts in the middleweight division," Loeffler told ESPN.
"We still hold out hopes that the fight with Billy Joe Saunders, or whoever is WBO champion, could be made later this year or early next year.
"Canelo [Alvarez] was the first priority and we were working on it since Canelo won the WBC title. It was one thing for Canelo talking about fighting Gennady, but he has decided to move back down a division and he has got a lot of criticism for doing that.
"But I believe that fight will happen in 2017 and it will be the biggest fight in boxing."
Golovkin's manager, Max Hermann, says a fight against Saunders would happen in the UK.
"We tried to do Billy Joe Saunders fight, but it didn't work out, but we're still interested because he has the last world title belt," Hermann told ESPN. "If we can make the fight in the future, we would because Gennady's aim has always been to unify the division, win all the belts. From our point of view we made a very good offer but he rejected it. In the future, maybe at the end of the year or next year, it could happen.
"Of course, he could go to the UK for this fight. Last time we had negotiations with Frank Warren it was clear that the fight would happen in the UK. From our point of view, we didn't try to make the fight in the US. We said we would come to the UK, no problem."
