It's the first blockbuster UFC event under new ownership and also the promotion's New York City debut. Needless to say, matchmakers were encouraged to pull out all the stops to ensure MMA fans and mainstream media all recognized this fight card as the best one ever.
This effort appears to have succeeded. Ticket sales for Saturday's Madison Square Garden event have already set a new UFC gate record. The big question now is whether or not it can it also set a new pay-per-view record. If it does, the new owners will end the year with a wave of positive momentum toward their lofty goals of profit improvement in 2017.
