The ESPN rankings have been extended, and we now know who the top 300 prospects in the nation are. Michigan holds 11 commitments in the ESPN 150, but beyond that the Wolverines commits continue to show up.
Wide receiver Jaron Dukes (Columbus, Ohio/Marion-Franklin) is outside of the top 150, but finds himself ranked No. 216 overall. The 6-foot-4 receiver is a four-star who didn't perform at camps or combines, so his ranking is impressive for what little is out there on him.
The next Michigan commits in the top 300 are tight end Jake Butt (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) at No. 232 and recent commit defensive tackle Henry Poggi (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) at No. 250.
The addition of Poggi means Michigan has seven defensive commits in the top 300, including linebacker Ben Gedeon (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson), who checks in at No. 271. It also means that Michigan has 15 of its 20 commitments ranked among the top 300 prospects in the country.
That number is staggering because it's only June and Michigan has more commitments in the top 300 than some schools have committed period.
To put that into comparison with some of the other top schools around the country, Texas and Georgia both have 11 commitments within the 300. Michigan's 20 commitments overall is the most in the Big Ten as Ohio State is next in line with 11.
Several prospects who are coveted nationally have chosen Michigan. The Wolverines have landed nine commitments with offers from Ohio State and five with offers from Alabama.
Michigan also has seven commitments who will be playing in the Under Armour All-American game this year, compared to two in the 2012 class.
With this type of success on the recruiting trail the next step for the coaching staff will be to hold down the fort and fend off other programs still pursuing the Wolverines' commitments.
