The Colorado Mammoth defeated the host Halifax Thunderbirds 11-6 on Friday night. A dominant six-goal second quarter gave the Mammoth a commanding lead that they maintained for the remainder of the contest.
Will Malcom powered the offense for the Mammoth (4-2), finishing with a game-high nine points on three goals and six assists. Andrew Kew, in his return to the lineup, had three goals and two assists. Jack Hannah also recorded five points with two goals and three assists. Goaltender Dillon Ward made 49 saves to secure the victory. Colorado's Dylan McIntosh, Braden Saris and Tim Edwards each scored once.
For the Thunderbirds (3-4), captain Cody Jamieson scored three goals, with two of them coming on power plays. Clarke Petterson found the back of the net twice and added an assist. Randy Staats scored a goal and dished out four assists. Goalie Warren Hill made 22 saves before being replaced in the second quarter by Drew Hutchison, who stopped 14 of the 19 shots.
Up next: The Mammoth will host the Oshawa FireWolves on Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). The Georgia Swarm will visit the Thunderbirds on Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. ET (ESPN+).
