Daniil Kvyat escapes punishment after failed deflection test

The stewards have decided to take no further action with Daniil Kvyat after his Toro Rosso failed a front floor deflection test.

A statement issued by the stewards after qualifying stated the vertical deflection of the STR11 had exceeded the legal amount and had therefore breached the regulations. Kvyat believed that had been caused by damage from one of Monte Carlo's kerbs and pointed out it had actually hampered his lap in Q3.

The stewards agreed with Kvyat and Toro Rosso, saying in a statement: "The team produced evidence that the car suffered an impact which reduced the downforce and resulted with a slower lap time than in Q2. Therefore whilst technically the car failed to pass the deflection test, the stewards have decided not to impose any penalty. However the team is reminded that further tests will be conducted and that future failure of the test may not result in the same decision."

Kvyat qualified ninth in Monte Carlo, two places behind teammate Carlos Sainz, but will line up eighth after Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen serves a gearbox penalty.
