FIFA confirm receipt of Jonathan Gonzalez's switch from U.S. to Mexico

Jonathan Gonzalez has filed his one-time switch to move from the United States to Mexico, a FIFA spokesperson confirmed to ESPN FC on Wednesday.

Sources have told ESPN FC that the Mexico federation (FMF) is hopeful Gonzalez's change of nationality will be successfully completed within 10 days. Earlier this week, the former U.S. youth national team midfielder acknowledged reports that he was set to switch allegiances to Mexico and El Tri hope paperwork will be completed in time to make him available for the Jan. 31 friendly against Bosnia & Herzegovina in San Antonio, Texas.

"We can confirm that FIFA has received such a request," a FIFA spokesperson said via statement. "Please understand that at this stage we can't make any further comments."

Mexico begins its preparation for Russia 2018 with the Bosnia friendly and is set to play two more preparation games in the United States in March, before the World Cup camp gets underway in May.

"Through this medium I want to express that my present is in Mexico, the country that opened the doors for me," wrote Gonzalez in his statement on Tuesday.
