The Colorado Rapids have completed the signing of German midfielder Stefan Aigner pending the finalization of a medical, a league source has told ESPN FC. The source indicated that Aigner has signed a three-and-a-half year deal.
The addition of Aigner, 29, is contingent on receipt of his ITC and a P-1 visa.
Aigner arrives in Colorado after spending the 2016-17 season in the 2. Bundesliga with 1860 Munich, scoring four goals in 28 league and cup appearances. He became available due to the turmoil that engulfed Munich at the end of last season when the Lions were relegated from Germany's second tier, and then sustained a further relegation to the Regionalliga Bayern in Germany's fourth tier when it failed to pay the necessary fees.
Aigner also played for 1860 Munich for parts of four seasons from 2009 to 2012, making 99 league and cup appearances, and scoring 25 goals. In between those stints, Aigner played in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt for four seasons, amassing 136 league, cup, and playoff appearances while scoring 28 goals.
Aigner began his professional career in 2006 in the 2. Bundesliga with SV Wacker Burghausen. He then moved to Bundesliga side Arminia Bielefeld in 2007, where he spent parts of two seasons, playing mostly in Bielefeld's reserve team.
